Raindrop Technique was developed by Gary Young, the founder of Young Living, as a result of research showing that many forms of spinal misalignments are caused by muscle spasms and inflammation-producing bacteria and viruses that reside along the spine.

Based on the energy principles of ancient Egyptians, Tibetans and American Indians, Raindrop technique is designed to bring balance to the body without using hard pressure or force.

It utilises the ancient Tibetan reflexology technique of Vitaflex, combined with massage and Young Living’s Therapeutic Grade essential oils to promote a deep experience of relaxation and balance.

The oils are dripped onto the body from a height of six inches or more. This was inspired by the American Indian belief that raindrops falling on us from a height may purify and cleanse our body and spirit. Then they are “feathered” in (in a spine-tingling motion adapted from American Indian traditions), or massaged in. This makes for a sensational experience, both giving and receiving. Although this is a Professional Level training, you don’t have to be a body worker or therapist to undertake this one-day training. In fact, Raindrop Technique was not created for professional use, but as a technique to use at home. It is simple to learn and apply, and the results stand for themselves. It is my favourite form of bodywork to both give and receive…..and it can be used on animals as well! In this Professional Level training you will be given detailed tuition in all facets of Raindrop Technique. You will learn it step by step, and you will also be taught how to modify Raindrop Technique for different recipients.

Since learning Raindrop Technique and becoming confident in its application on humans, I have had the opportunity to perform Raindrop technique on a number of animals. I’ve used exactly the same principles as for humans (and have simply adjusted the technique for the animal’s anatomy – for example, a horse’s “foot”, and a dog’s “foot” is not just the pad that rests on the floor – that’s just their toes…and it is the whole foot that I performed vitaflex on).

Naturally, it was easier when my furry friends stayed still for the technique, so it was helpful to choose a time of day when they were settled (otherwise I adjusted my body position around theirs). And I notice that their first session (where everything was strange and new) is when they are at their most restless and curious.

I have been delighted with the results, on both dogs and horses. When I performed Raindrop Technique on my sister’s horse “Mister”, we had him in a halter, and he stood happily for the hour that it took me to complete the Raindrop technique. He became extremely relaxed during the session. Despite my height, I still needed to stand on a stool when I applied the oils to his back.

When I have given Raindrop Technique to dogs, I have been grateful for their owner’s help in settling them down. After that, it’s been plain sailing!

I have not performed Raindrop Technique on cats or other animals, and cannot comment on that…..except to say that my cats don’t like the intense aroma of the oils. It’s advisable not to put citrus oils, or oils with high phenol content (like Oregano and Thyme), on cats, as they have a strong reaction to these oils.
